About Me

My Fashion Journey

My love for making clothes began when I was around six years old. I vividly remember accompanying my mom to the tailor and being completely captivated as I watched her sew. At that moment, I fell in love with the art of creating clothes, even though I didn’t know what a fashion designer was. All I knew was that I wanted to make beautiful clothes.

As I grew older, my passion only grew stronger. When I was about 14 or 15, my dad gifted me my first sewing machine, and that’s when my hands-on journey truly began. I was completely self-taught in the beginning, and it wasn’t easy. I didn’t even realize I could use YouTube to learn until a few years later, so it was all about trial and error. I would take apart clothes just to see how they were constructed and sew them back together, learning how to thread the machine, adjust tension, and all the little details that come with sewing.

Eventually, I pursued a formal education in fashion and started a BA(Hons) Fashion program at the University of Namibia. Although I wasn’t able to complete my degree, my passion never faded. I continued teaching myself, always seeking new ways to grow and improve.

In 2022, I enrolled in a Level 1 Fashion and Textiles course, and it was an amazing experience. It helped me polish my existing skills while introducing me to new techniques I hadn’t explored before. I’m now working through the Level 2 of the same course, continuing to push myself creatively.

One challenge I’ve consistently faced is fashion illustration. I used to get frustrated seeing flawless sketches on social media and feeling like mine didn’t measure up. But with time, I learned to focus on my strengths—pattern making, sewing, and designing—and stopped beating myself up for not being perfect at everything. Fashion is about expression and creativity, not perfection, and that mindset has allowed me to truly enjoy the process.

My journey has been anything but linear, but every twist and turn has made me the designer I am today—passionate, resilient, and always eager to learn more.
